The Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) obtained an injunction that obliges the company Dona Registro (“Company”) to immediately cease the provision and dissemination of services related to industrial property. This measure was taken through a joint action by the PTO’s Special Federal Prosecutor’s Office and the Federal Attorney General’s Office, linked to the Attorney General’s Office (AGU).
The Company falsely disclosed on its website that the PTO was not the only entity responsible for granting patents and trademark registrations in Brazil. As a result, the website was taken down.
It is important to note that the PTO is the only entity authorized in Brazil to grant these protections and does not have commercial representatives acting on its behalf. In addition, the PTO does not send invoices or correspondence, either by physical or digital means (email, WhatsApp, Telegram, etc.).
